Crossover from the Josephson effect to bulk superconducting flow.

چکیده
The crossover between ideal Josephson behavior and uniform superconducting flow is studied by solving exactly the Ginzburg-Landau equation for a one-dimensional superconductor in the presence of an effective delta function potential of arbitrary strength. As the effective scattering is turned off, the pairs of Josephson solutions with equal current evolve into a uniform and a solitonic solution with nonzero phase offset. It is also argued that a microscopic description of the crossover must satisfy the self-consistency condition, which is shown to guarantee current conservation. The adiabatic response to an external bias is briefly described. The ac Josephson effect is shown to break down when the external voltage is applied at points which are sufficiently far from the junction. 73.40.Cg, 73.40.Gk, 74.20.De, 74.50.+r, 74.60.Jg Typeset using REVTEX 1

Superconductivity: The Meissner Effect, Persistent Currents and the Josephson Effects
Several phenomena associated with superconductivity are observed in three experiments carried out in a liquid helium cryostat. The transition to the superconducting state of several bulk samples of Type I and II superconductors is observed in measurements of the exclusion of magnetic field (the Meisner effect) as the temperature is gradually reduced by the flow of cold gas from boiling helium. ...

متن کاملJosephson Current For a Graphene Nanoribbon Using a Lattice Model
A tight binding approach based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach has been used to calculate the DC Josephson current for a lattice model for S-GNR-S junctions , for short junctions with respect to superconducting coherence length. We calculate the phase, length, width and chemical potential dependence at the Josephson junction and discuss the similarities and differences with regard to the t...
متن کاملTransport properties of Nb/PdNi bilayers and Nb/PdNi/Nb Josephson junctions
The superconducting proximity effect was examined in both Nb/PdNi (SF) bilayer films and Nb/PdNi/Nb (SFS) Josephson junctions. In Nb/PdNi bilayer films, nonmonotonic behavior of Tc was observed as a function of PdNi thickness dF. The effective exchange energy Eex extracted from the data was about 13 meV. In Nb/PdNi/Nb (SFS) Josephson junctions, the existence of a crossover between the 0 state a...
متن کاملQuantum Phase in Nanoscopic Superconductors
Using the pseudospin representation and the SU(2) phase operators we introduce a complex parameter to characterize both infinite and finite superconducting systems. While in the bulk limit the parameter becomes identical to the conventional order parameter, in the nanoscopic limit its modulus reduces to the number parity effect parameter and its phase takes discrete values. We evaluate the Jose...
